WITH THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.
(John 12:42-43)

Jesus did a lot of miracles during His earthly ministry. Many people believed in Him because of what they had seen, while others refused to have faith.

Even some of the Jewish leaders believed He was the Son of God, the promised Messiah. But, as our verse points out, they wouldn’t admit it because they feared the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.

It was more important for these leaders to have the approval of the rest of the leaders and Pharisees than to have the approval of God.

How easy it is to fall into the same trap.

We often keep our mouths shut instead of speaking out for the Lord because we fear what others might think or say about us.

When speaking to an unbeliever, we keep quiet rather than tell them about the wonderful things the Lord has done for us, because we don’t want to offend them.

Fear can ruin our witness for the Lord because it causes us to shrink back instead of boldly declaring what we believe.

The Lord doesn't want us to be fearful of witnessing for Him. He gave us the Holy Spirit to help us. He enables us and gives us the courage to speak out and tell others about the Lord. But we have to trust Him to do so. We have to open our mouths, even in the midst of being afraid, and start to talk. When we do that in faith, He will step in to empower us and even give us the words to speak.

Take a stand for the Lord today. Open your mouth and tell others about Him and about the good things He has done in your life.

And if you have to do it afraid, do it afraid. But trust the Holy Spirit to come alongside and help you get rid of your fear and speak with boldness.

We were called to be witnesses for the Lord. Let us take that call seriously and spread the Good News of Christ to all people!
