WHOM DO YOU FIGHT AGAINST?

In Ephesians 6:12 Paul tells us the following: "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."

This very plainly tells us when someone else is doing something negative to us or saying negative things about us, we should remember they are not the problem. The real enemy is Satan and his demons influencing their behaviour.

I've heard someone say it this way: "Other people are not the enemy; they are merely victims of the enemy."

We can all become victims of the enemy. Yes, even believers can fall victim to him.

That is why Paul tells us: "'In your anger do not sin': Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold" (Ephesians 4:27).

And Peter tells us: "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8).

The enemy is looking for people who will allow him to use them, and as we see from these verses, not even believers are safe from him trying to influence and use them.

However, we don't have to give in and be his victims.

We as believers have the right to resist him because our Lord and Saviour has already defeated him and we are no longer subject to his power, authority or influence. And when we do resist him, the Word gives us the promise that he will flee from us.

Not all believers know this or believe it. And those who don't believe in Jesus can't resist for they are still subject to Satan's authority in their lives.

Therefore we need to remind ourselves that people are not the enemy, but victims of the enemy.

We need to remember our weapons of warfare are not physical but spiritual.

We need to fight the war on our knees and in faith.

When we do that, we will always be victorious and we will walk in love even towards people we perceive as enemies!

Come to the Lord in prayer fighting with the weapon He gave - the Sword of the Spirit, which is His Word.

Pray what He says in His Word, walk in love towards others and win the fight every time knowing you are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you (Romans 8:37).
