GIVES US LIFE?
I read a blog post on Friday titled "What's Saving My Life Right Now?" by Jess Metcalf from
Cultivate what matters.
The post is about the things that give you life in the middle of your least favourite season - winter in this case.
As I read the post I thought about the things that can give us life in any season we are facing. This includes the physical seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter as well as the seasons in our lives.
The first one that comes to mind is our relationship with the Lord.
This is the most important relationship we have and we are to treat it that way.
Time spent with the Lord fills us with hope and faith. In the Presence of the Lord we find freedom and joy. We find love and all things good.
The Lord is our life and the Giver of life so He gives life in any season we are in.
The second thing I'm reminded of is the Word.
In John 6:63 we read: "It is the Spirit giving life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and they are life."
The words of God we read in the Word are spirit and life - they are life-giving in any season.
They are the light we need to light our path and show us the way to go.
We need God's words to sustain our own spirits. They are like food and water to our spirits.
The third thing that gives us life in any season is prayer.
It doesn't matter if we are in a joyful or a difficult season, prayer is always a necessity.
We need to worship and praise the Lord in prayer. We need to thank Him in prayer. We need to pray for ourselves and our loved ones. We need to pray for people outside our immediate family. In fact, we need to pray for the whole world!
I've heard it said that prayer is like breathing. No wonder the Lord tells us to never stop praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17)!
And the great thing is that we can pray at all times. You can pray while you clean the house. You can pray while you drive to work. I guess you can even pray when the meeting you are in becomes a little boring!
We all face different seasons at different times in our lives.
And during each season we all need three things to give us life and to sustain us during that season:
1. Our relationship with the Lord.
2. Time in His Word.
What season are you facing at this point in time?
Come to the Life-giver and let Him give you life in this season!
