God Thoughts

Last week we spoke about being under God's protection and I shared some verses from Scripture regarding the Lord's protection.

Psalm 91 were among those verses.

Today I want us to look a little bit more at this Psalm, as I learnt some new things that I want to share with you.

In Psalm 91 we find a wall of protection made up of four parts.

The first part of this wall is the Word

In verse 4 we read: "With His feathers He will cover you, under His wings you will find safety. His truth is your shield and armor" (Psalm 91:4).

Notice the words "His truth is your shield and armour."

God's Word is His truth, as we clearly see in John 17:17: "Sanctify them by the truth. Your Word is truth."

The Word of the Lord needs to be in our eyes and ears so it can get into our hearts. Then we will begin to think, talk and act like the Lord and the Holy Spirit will be able to draw on that Word in every situation and give us the wisdom we need to help us and protect us.

The second part of the wall is the Blood.

Verse 10 says: "...no evil will fall upon you, and no affliction will approach your tent..."

Now you might wonder what this verse has to do with the Blood.

Well, lets look at Exodus 12:13, where we read about the Passover: "The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are. I'll see the blood and pass over you. There will be no plague to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt."

The blood of those lambs was a picture of the Blood of Jesus which covers us and keeps us save under God's protection.

Revelation 12:11 says something more about the Blood: "And they overcame him [Satan] because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death."

The Blood of the Lamb helps us overcome Satan and all the evil he wants to bring into our lives.

The third part of the wall of protection is the Angels.

Psalm 91:11-12 says: "...for He will command His angels to protect you in all your ways. With their hands they will lift you up so you will not trip over a stone."

Hebrews 1:14 has this to say about the angels: "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"

And in Psalm 34:7 we read: "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them."

I've heard so many testimonies of people who actually saw the angels that were protecting them when something bad was happening around them. The Lord certainly gives His angels command to protect us.

The fourth part of the wall is the Name.

In Psalm 91:14 we read the following: "Because he has focused his love on Me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows My Name."

Proverbs 18:10 tells us more about the Name of the Lord: "The Name of the Lord is a strong tower; a righteous person rushes to it and is lifted up above the danger."

And Philippians 2:9-11 says this about the Name: "Therefore God exalted Him [Jesus] to the highest place
and gave Him the Name that is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Isn't that wonderful? The Name of Jesus is above every other name, and every knee should bow at His Name.

So here we have the four parts that make up God's wall of protection: The Word, the Blood, the angels, and the Name.

May you be reminded every day of the Lord's wall of protection, and may you experience His protection in each and every situation you face!
