ON PRAYER (2)
Yesterday we spoke about prayer and I asked the question: What if praying according to God's will wasn't so much about knowing what His will was and then asking for what we know He wants to give us, but more about it being His will for us to pray and ask Him for whatever we need?
Today I want to ask you a different question.
What if praying according to God's will was exactly that - knowing His will and praying accordingly?
The Word of God explicitly gives us His will for a whole lot of things.
We know His will regarding salvation. In 2 Timothy 2:3-4 we see He wants all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth, for He is our Saviour.
We know His will about healing. He is called our Healer (Exodus 15:26), so we know it is His will to heal us.
We know His will concerning provision. In Genesis 22:14 we learn one of the characteristics of God, namely that He will provide, so we know His will is to provide for us in all circumstances.
In 1 John 1:19 we see His will regarding sin - when we confess it, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
These are but a few examples of the will of God we find in the Word. I can think of many more, but you get the idea.
And the wonderful thing is, even when we don't have a specific verse in the Bible that tells us God's will regarding something - God doesn't tell us who to marry or where to live or work in the Bible - we can still know what He wants us to do!
We can know God's will for any situation through the Holy Spirit.
He is our Teacher and our Guide.
He will teach us all things and guide us into all truth (John 14:26; John 16:13).
He speaks what He hears and tells us about things to come (John 16:13).
When we heed His voice we will know God's will for our lives and we will be able to pray and act accordingly.
Let the Holy Spirit teach you God's will for any and every situation in life.
Listen to Him and follow His instructions.
Pray as He leads you.
When you pray according to the Word and as the Holy Spirit leads you, you will always pray according to God's will!
