God Thoughts

I read Psalm 9 during my quiet time yesterday.

When I came to verse 10 something just clicked: "And those who know Your name will put their trust in You,
for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

The Hebrew word translated 'know' is the word 'yada' and it means to have an intimate knowledge of something. (It is the same word used to describe the sexual relationship between husband and wife.)

So when David speaks about knowing the Lord's Name it is more than just knowing what He is called. It carries the idea of having personal knowledge of that Name because you have experienced it.

Let me give you an example.

In Abraham's history we see the Lord reveal Himself to Abraham as Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who Provides (actually, the name literally means The Lord Who sees, or The Lord Who will see to it).

When you have experienced the One Who see to it that your every need is met; the One Who knows your need because He sees; the One Who is able to meet your need in just the right time, and the One Who can meet it fully, you will have no trouble putting your trust in Him every time you have a need, for you know (have personal and intimate knowledge of) His Name - Jehovah-Jireh.

God is also called Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord who heals. When you have personally experienced the Lord healing you it will be easy to trust Him to do it every time it is necessary, because you know (have personal and intimate knowledge of) His Name - Jehovah-Rapha.

I could go on and on, but I trust you get the idea.

It isn't easy to trust someone you don't really know.

But when you know someone intimately, it becomes so much easier.

Personally and intimately knowing the Lord - who He is, what He is like and what He does - enables us to put our trust in Him more fully.

May each one of us have a personal experience with every Name of the Lord, so we can fully put our trust in Him, because we know the Name of the Lord.

He has never, and He will never, forsake those who seek Him!
