THE LORD IS MY LIGHT, MY SALVATION, MY DEFENCE

The other day I planned on reading Psalm 27 during my quiet time.

But I only got as far as the first verse.

It grabbed my attention and I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I even looked up some of the verses I found in the margin of my Bible; verses also speaking about the wonderful truths the first verse of Psalm 27 speaks about.

I want to share it as well as some of my own thoughts on them with you.

Just read them and see how wonderful our God is!

Psalm 27:1:
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defence of my life;
Whom shall I dread?

The Lord is my light:

Psalm 118:28: "For You light my lamp; the Lord my God illumines my darkness" – The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord (Proverbs 20:27). Through Jesus Christ God lit my lamp, my spirit. I was born again and became alive to God. He illumined my darkness. Now I am light, not darkness anymore.

Isaiah 60:20: "Your sun will no longer set,
Nor will your moon wane;
For you will have the LORD for an everlasting light,
And the days of your mourning will be over.
"

Micah 7:8: "Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy.
Though I fall I will rise;
Though I dwell in darkness, the LORD is a light for me.
"

Isaiah 9:2: "The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them
" – This is a prophesy about Jesus, the light that came from God: "In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it" (John 1:4-5).

The Lord is my salvation:

Exodus 15:2: "The LORD is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father's God, and I will extol Him
"  – God became my salvation as well when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.

Psalm 62:1-2;5-7: "My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him is my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
On God my salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God
" – Rock, stronghold, hope, rock of my strength, refuge, salvation – this is what God is for me. I don’t have to fear anything or anyone. I will not be shaken for God is my strength, my rock, my refuge, my hope, my stronghold, my salvation.

Psalm 118:14: "The LORD is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation
" – Again, the Lord is my strength. He has become my salvation.

Isaiah 33:2: "LORD, be gracious to us; we have waited for You.
Be their strength every morning,
Our salvation also in the time of distress.
"

Jonah 2:9: "But I will sacrifice to You
With the voice of thanksgiving.
That which I have vowed I will pay.
Salvation is from the LORD.
"

The Lord is the defence of my life:

Psalm 28:8: "The LORD is their strength,
And He is a saving defence to His anointed.
"

The Lord Himself is my light. He shines in my heart and through His Word He illumines the path were I should walk. He drives away all darkness and brings light. He has translated me from the dominion of darkness into the Kingdom of His dear Son, the Kingdom of light. I don't have to walk in darkness anymore for God is my light!

The Lord Himself is my salvation. He delivered me. He made me whole. There is nothing lacking and nothing broken in me or in my life. It doesn't matter what difficulties or situations I have to face, the Lord is my salvation and He will deliver me from all my fears and my troubles (Psalm 34:4).

The Lord Himself is the defence of my life. He defends me against the accuser of the brethren. He keeps my life safely hidden in Him. He is my protection, my stronghold, my refuge.

The Lord is my light, my salvation and the defence of my life.

Whom shall I fear and whom shall I dread?

I will not be shaken for my feet are firmly planted on the Rock of my salvation!
