SURRENDER: PROVISION

In my quiet time I am currently working through a book by Nancy Leigh DeMoss called, 'Surrender, the heart God controls'.

I admit, sometimes the whole idea of surrender scares me. But then I think of everything Jesus gave up in order to save my, and I wonder how in the world can I do anything else but surrender to Him.

But I am not alone in my fear of total surrender.

There is probably not a single person on the face of the earth that doesn't struggle with fear of total surrender. And yet, the things we want to cling to, the things where our fear of surrender is the strongest in the end turns out to be the things that have a hold on us.

Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, only in total surrender to our Lord Jesus and His reign in our lives lays true peace and true joy.

God knew we would struggle with this fear and that it would keep us from total surrender. So He gave us some promises to help us see He can be trusted with those things that are important to us, those things where our fear can totally overwhelm us in thinking of surrendering it to Him.

There are four main areas where we can have fear to surrender to God: provision, pleasure, protection, and personal relationships.

Today we are going to look at provision:

God wants us to surrender our provision to Him. We have to give up the right to take care of ourselves and trust Him to take care of us. There are a number of places in the Word where we find promises from God to take care of us if we would let Him:

Matthew 6:25, 32-33: "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on... For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Philippians 4:19: "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

1 Peter 5:6-7: "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."

Philippians 4:6-7: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

God has promised to take care of our needs, all we need to do is trust Him. Because of these promises we can surrender our provision to Him without fear.

So, what will it be? Are you going cling to your right to take care of yourself?

Or are you going to surrender to God and let Him take care of you?
