God Thoughts

In Philippians 2:3-4 we read the following instruction: "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves, do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others."

And in Romans 12:10 we find a similar one: "
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor..."

All through the Bible the Lord had been instructing people to see others as important.

Everything we are instructed to do towards others are geared to help us place them above ourselves, to put them first.

It has been said that the Lord never asks us to do something He hasn't demonstrated to us first.

When we read the rest of Philippians 2 we see the truth of this: "Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (vs.5-10).

Jesus placed us ahead of Himself.

He became a human being, died on the cross, rose again, and in doing so He paid for our sins and became the way for us to be in relationship with God again.

He placed our need to be saved and have peace with God and be in relationship with Him ahead of Himself and His personal comfort.

Now we are to do the same.

And we are able to do it because of the grace the Lord has given us.

Through His grace He empowers us to be obedient to Him.

Therefore we can put others ahead of ourselves.

We can love them and serve them with joy in our hearts.

Make the decision to put others ahead of yourself every single day.

God showed us how.

And He empowers us to do the same.

Follow His example.
