| About me
There were a lot of things Jesus said and did the scribes and Pharisees failed to understand, but one of the biggest ones was Jesus calling God His and our Father.
The Jews grew up under the Old Covenant when people could not be born again, when they couldn't have a true relationship with God.
When you read the Bible you will notice God calls them His people, but never His children. They are called the children of Abraham or the children of Israel, but never the children of God.
That title is reserved for those who live under the New Covenant, those who have placed their faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour: "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His Name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God" (John 1:12-13).
If you have been born again, you have God Himself as your Father.
Jesus said a lot of things about the Father, things that show us His character, but today we are only going to take a look at one of those things.
In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus instructs us to trust God for our provision instead of worrying about it. He says: "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?... Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things" (Matthew 6:26;31-32).
Our Father knows we need food and clothes and He will supply those needs.
Just think about a human mother or father. They would rather do without than see their children do without. If humans, even those who aren't born again, want the best for their children and would go to any length to feed and clothe them, why do we think our Heavenly Father wouldn't do the same?
We have to grasp the fact that our Father is interested in every single one of His children and He loves each one of us with the same love. We are a part of His family; He is for us and takes care of us in every situation.
We can stand before Him as His little children and we can be honest with Him about our needs. He wants us to, for in Philippians 4:6 He instructs us to "be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." And again in 1 Peter 5:6-7 we are told to "humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."
Your Heavenly Father, your Daddy God, loves you very much and cares about you more than any human will ever be able to love you and care about you.
Rest in His great love for you.
Come to Him as your Daddy and make your requests known to Him. Yes, He already knows what you need, but ask Him anyway and experience His care for you.
He will not let you down!
