I LOVE YOU!
In John 12:1-8 we read a story about Mary, the sister of Lazarus.
Jesus was visiting with the family.
Martha was serving supper and sometime during that meal Mary came into the room with a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard.
She went to Jesus and poured the perfume onto His feet.
I can just see her gently rubbing the perfume into His feet, and then taking her hair to wipe away the last few drops.
The whole house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
When Judas Iscariot complained about her actions, Jesus said, "Let her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial. For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me" (vs.7-8).
Through her actions Mary was showing her love and adoration for Jesus. This was not the only time she did something to show how much she loved Him.
In Luke 10 we see her sitting at the feet of Jesus, listening to Him. This time it was Martha who came to complain. She wanted Mary to help her in her preparations. But when she complained about Mary not helping her Jesus said, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her" (Luke 10:41-42).
Twice we read about something Mary did that showed her love and devotion to the Lord.
She gave of her time to sit with Him and listen to Him.
She gave of her treasure, probably her very best, when she anointed His feet with the perfume.
And later on Jesus gave back more than she ever dreamed possible.
When He died on the cross He gave His life for the whole world - Mary included.
He gave her a new life, a new way of doing life with God.
In fact, if you think about it, Jesus gave her God!
He did the same for us.
He gave His life so we can be made alive to God and have Him take up residence in us through the Holy Spirit.
Now we have the opportunity to do what Mary did.
We can show our love and devotion through giving of ourselves.
We can give our time, our talent, our treasure. We can give our hearts and our bodies. We can give Him all of us, for He gave us all of Him.
What action can you take today to express your love and devotion to the Lord?
