"And we can be sure that we know Him if we obey His commandments. If someone claims, "I know God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God's word truly show how completely they love Him. That is how we know we are living in Him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did."
1 John 2:3-6

When one reads that last statement about living our lives as Jesus did, one automatically thinks about obedience. When taken in context, that is what John is referring to.

But Jesus didn't just live a life of obedience; He did so much more.

He lived in total dependence on and faith in God the Father. Every miracle He performed was done through faith in the Father.

The Father gave Him the words for every sermon He preached or lesson He taught.

Jesus lived a life of obedience, depending on God through faith.

That is what we are called to do as well.

In John 15:5 Jesus says: "
Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing."

We are unable to produce any lasting fruit without a connection to Jesus. He is our Life Source, our strength, and our ability. Without depending on Him through faith, we will live lives that don’t amount to much.

But with Him… that's a different story.

Make sure you are connected to Jesus every moment of every day. Rely on Him to help you in whatever He has called you to do. Lean on Him to help you live a life of obedience. Trust Him to bear lasting fruit through you.

"Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did" (1 John 2:6).
