In Psalm 27:4 we read: "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple."
In a teaching I was listening to the teacher said when David wrote he wanted to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life, he wasn't literally speaking about the temple.
I mean, how would it have been possible for him to live in the temple anyway?
No, what he was talking about was God's Presence.
David had such a hunger for the Lord.
He wanted to be in His Presence every day, all day.
Dr. Caroline Leaf, who knows astonishing things about the way we think and about our brains, says we have to discipline ourselves to constantly be in communication with the Lord.
That is living in His Presence all the time.
When we skip down to verse 8 we read: "My heart says of you, 'Seek His face!' Your face, Lord, I will seek."
David's heart instructed him and urged him to seek the Lord, to be in His Presence.
This is what our hearts should do as well.
We should have such a hunger for the Lord, such a desire to be in His Presence that our hearts also cry out: "Seek His face!"
And then we should do what David did - seek the Lord.
We should remind ourselves at regular intervals during the day that God is with us.
We should ask His help, His wisdom, His guidance while we go about our business every day.
In short, we should do what Dr. Leaf recommends - discipline ourselves to talk to the Lord all the time.
Remember, prayer doesn't have to be a formal thing, where you sit with your eyes closed and your hands folded.
No. You can pray anytime, anywhere.
So seek the face of the Lord.
Get into His Presence.
Talk to Him during your day.
And let us all dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives!
