PICTURE OF ME
In the New Testament we find four pictures describing what we look like to God:
I am a vessel.
2 Corinthians 4:7: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves..."
I am a temple which contains God.
1 Corinthians 6:19: "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?"
I am a branch grafted into a vine.
John 15:5: "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing."
I am a part of a body.
Colossians 1:18: "He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything."
Notice 2 Corinthians 4:7 speaks about the power that comes from God, not from us. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says we do not belong to ourselves and John 15:5 states we can do nothing without Jesus. And Colossians 1:18 says He is to have first place in everything.
You see, whether we realise it or not, whether we believe it or not, whether we like it or not, it is all about God.
I am just an empty vessel, hollow on the inside, but with the potential to have God fill me up.
I am mere dust, fused to Glory when God is living in me.
On my own I am a useless branch, but when the sap of the Holy Spirit flows through me, I effortlessly bear fruit that glorifies God.
I am part of the Body of Christ, Him being the head, and I receive my orders and directives from Him by tuning in to His ever-present leading within me.
Realise who you are in Christ - His vessel to fill; His temple to live in; His branch to bear fruit through; His body to command.
