In Psalm 46:1 we read:
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
Notice that God Himself is our refuge and strength.
Refuge means shelter or protection from danger, trouble, etc. It is a safe place.
This means God Himself is the safe place, the shelter, the protection from danger and trouble.
When we know God as our refuge, it enables us to trust Him more and more.
Knowing Him as our refuge will set us free from fearing situations or people who threaten us in any way.
But how does God become my refuge?
Simple - ask Him!
Ask Him to be your refuge. Pour out your heart before Him. Trust Him to intervene and help.
Be obedient to what He tells you to do.
See His hand in your life when He reveals He is there with you.
Unfortunately we often look for safety in things other than God.
But these 'safe places' never last.
At some point all of them crumble and fall into ruin.
However, this will not happen when we make God our refuge, for He has promised: "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you," so we can confidently say, "The Lord is my Helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?" (Hebrews 13:5-6).
Come to the Lord today.
Ask Him to be your refuge.
Run to Him whenever you see any danger, in fact, run to Him at all times, for you might not yet see the danger ahead.
He has promised to be with you always.
Trust Him and make Him your safe place!
