God Thoughts

We have been looking at some gifts the Lord gave us, things that were His very own, that He chose to give to us. Some of these gifts make us who we are in Christ and others we are to use to help us live life and do what He has called us to do.

Today we are going to look at God giving us His Name.

When God sent Moses to the Israelites in Egypt, Moses asked whom he should say sent him, God answered: "I AM WHO I AM; thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

We find Jesus using that same Name when speaking to the Jews in John 8: "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am" (vs.58).

That says a lot.

It says He is all we will ever need.

Let's look at some verses from Scripture have to say about His Name.

Jeremiah 10:6: "There is none like You, O LORD; You are great, and great is Your Name in might" - there is power in His Name.

John 20:31: "But these [signs] are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in His Name" - through faith we receive life in His Name.

Acts 4:12: "
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved" - His Name alone was given to us by which we can be saved.

Romans 10:13 - "
...for whoever will call on the Name of the Lord will be saved" - what a wonderful promise! All, not just some, but all who call on His Name will be saved.

1 Corinthians 6:11: "
Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God" - we receive justification before God the Father in the Name of Jesus.

Luke 10:17: "
The seventy returned with joy, saying, 'Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your Name'" - the Name of Jesus puts Satan and his cohorts under our feet.

Matthew 18:20: "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them" - another promise. When we come together for the sake of the Lord, He is there with us.

John 14:13: "
Whatever you ask in My Name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son" - this is also a wonderful promise to stand on. We ask in the Name of Jesus, presenting to Daddy God all He is, and Jesus steps in and does what we've asked for in order to glorify our Daddy God.

And finally we have this verse: "Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (Colossians 3:17). Everything we say and do should be done in the Name of Jesus. When we ask in His Name, we present to Daddy God all He is. I believe this is a call for us to do the same - in everything we say and do to present to the world all He is, so they can see Him in us and through us.

Jesus gave us His Name.

Let us use it wisely, not as the world does in a blasphemous way, but to glorify Daddy God through Him and to let others see Him shine through us, trusting in the Holy Spirit to use us to lead others to Him so they too can be saved.
