In 1 John 4:9-10 we read: "By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins."
Because of Jesus you are not dead in your trespasses and sins anymore (Ephesians 2:1), but you are alive to God (Romans 6:11).
You have life because Jesus gave you His. You have it in abundance, to the full; it actually overflows (John 10:10, Amplified Version).
And this life will last for all eternity.
We can see the way love works through God's example.
We have a need, the need for a Saviour. So God gave part of Himself, His Son, to be our Saviour.
God alone was able to do this. No one else would have been able to save mankind from Satan, sin and death.
Notice, God gave Himself to supply our need.
That is how love works.
Give of yourself to supply someone else's need.
When I give of my time to someone, I am giving of myself.
When I give of my money, I am giving of myself, for I had given of my time to work in order to earn the money, so the money is part of 'myself'.
In fact, anything I buy with the money and give to someone else is part of 'myself' for the same reason.
Love others by giving of yourself to meet their needs and by treating them the way you would want to be treated!
