"So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."
(Hebrews 4:16)

This verse instructs us on how to approach God when we are in need of help – we are to come boldly.

So often we think we have to grovel and beg. We think we need to approach God with an attitude of 'I am a worm', but that is not what the Word teaches.

The word 'boldly’ means 'in a confident and courageous way; showing a willingness to take risks.’

God gives us an instruction, and therefore permission, to come with confidence and courage.

He is our Father, and He longs to hear His children ask Him for whatever they need.

The verse also tells us why we can approach God’s throne of grace in this way. We have the assurance that we will receive mercy and find the grace we need to help us.

God will never turn anyone away who approaches His throne and asks for help. He helps those who come to Him and ask.

And you know what? We always need God’s help. There is never a day where we don’t need the help of God in some way. (We don’t even know what to pray, so we need His help even in talking to Him!)

Maybe your day isn’t going so well - come with boldness to the throne of grace. Or your day might be turning out exactly how you planned – you still need to come boldly to God's throne of grace.

Always come to God with boldness. Respect Him, honour Him, but come with confidence and courage.

He has promised to give you mercy and grace to help you in your time of need. And God is faithful to keep His promises.

Lord, thank you that I can come before Your throne of grace with confidence and courage. Thank you that I can come in this way because I already know how You will react to my plea for help – You will give mercy and grace to help me in my time of need. I come boldly, Lord, expecting You to help me!
