APPLY, APPLY, APPLY

Every good Bible study will ask you one important question about the Scripture you are studying.

The question can be asked many different ways, but it boils down to: How will you apply what you have learnt to your life?

You see, the Bible is not meant only to inform us, but to transform us.

Jesus said it this way: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall" (Matthew 7:24-27).

And James said it like this: "But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves" (James 1:22).

The whole point of reading and studying the Word is so we can be transformed into the image of our Lord Jesus.

But we will never be transformed unless we take what we've learnt and apply it to our lives in some way.

Sometimes the way to apply it will come to you easily.

Without thinking about it too much you will know where to apply that particular Scripture.

Other times you will have to meditate on the Scripture for a while before seeing the application.

But there will always be a way of applying something you have learnt from the Word to your life.

You just need to look for it.

And when you know how to apply it, you need to do it.

Not just once.

Not just twice.

But all the days of your life.

That is the way to be transformed into the image of our Lord Jesus - by doing His Word.

I must admit, I am guilty of not always looking for an application, and sometimes I know how to apply the Scripture, but I don't do it.

Maybe you have the same problem.

We all need to make a quality decision to begin being doers of the Word.

Don't just ask the Lord to change you into His image, work with Him by applying what He teaches you to your life.

When you do that, you will literally never be the same again!
