"Now that Jacob had returned from Paddan-aram, God appeared to him again at Bethel. God blessed him, saying, 'Your name is Jacob, but you will not be called Jacob any longer. From now on your name will be Israel.' So God renamed him Israel. God said, 'I am El-Shaddai—'God Almighty.' Be fruitful and multiply. You will become a great nation, even many nations. Kings will be among your descendants!'"
(Genesis 35:9 en 11)

Do you remember Jacob's story? Do you remember what he did to obtain the birthright belonging to his elder brother? And how he deceived his father in order to receive the blessing meant for his brother?

Observing his early history makes one thing the man is doomed to be a cheat and deceiver all his life.

But God had different plans. Slowly, but surely, He began to change Jacob into a new man. He gave him a new name and promised him he would become a great nation, and kings would come from him.

To us, it seems impossible for a man like Jacob to change, but nothing is impossible to God.

He saw Jacob the same way He sees every one of us – as a work in progress.

Remember, outward change doesn't come quickly. You don't go to bed one person and wake up the next morning completely different. It is going to take time. God will work in you and with you for the rest of your life. His plan is to change you into the image of Christ. And you will change, but not necessarily as quickly as you want to!

So take heart. Trust the Lord and obey Him as He gives direction. He is busy changing you to look just like His Son. And don’t give up when it takes longer than you anticipated.

PRAY WITH ME: Lord, thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for seeing me as a work in progress. Thank you for transforming me into the image of Jesus.
